Whether you have a traditional piano or a 61-key Casio, knowing how to play
keyboard is a skill that will bring joy for a lifetime.
I use several approaches depending on the student's goals; traditional
note-reading skill using a method book; or "Keyboard The Easy Way," with the
right hand playing melodies and the left hand playing chords.
Some students also like to experiment with the rhythm patterns, chord accompaniments
and other extras that are included on most consumer keyboards.
Cost is $17 for a 45 minute lesson. I teach on a 76-key Yamaha digital piano, with sustain pedal,
at my apartment studio in Old Southwest.
I have worked with students from third grade up to retirees.
If a child is unusually attentive it may be possible to start in first or second grade.
Students have the option (not required) of performing in my recitals, held in fall, winter, and spring.
It may also be possible to participate in one of my instructional bands.
I trained in music through private lessons, Henrico County Schools, Richmond
Symphony Youth Orchestra and UNC Chapel Hill, and have passed the Praxis test
required of public school music teachers in Virginia.
I offer a free consultation to help you decide if I'm the right teacher for you.
